New Brunswick Critical Worker Pilot Project (NBCWP).
The New Brunswick Critical Worker Pilot Project (NBCWP). This a first-of-its-kind immigration project between the New Brunswick provincial government, and the federal government.
On the 7th of November 2022, the provincial government of New Brunswick and the federal government introduced the New Brunswick Critical Worker Pilot Project (NBCWP). The program seeks to not only provide economic immigration to New Brunswick but also to help newcomer retention to the province by providing settlement services for immigrants.
In an attempt to address key labour shortages in New Brunswick, the Canadian federal government will work with Immigration and Opportunities NB, and six selected employers in New Brunswick on a new immigration pilot project; to bring and settle skilled foreign workers to the province.
The pilot project will work with six selected employers to help fill labour gaps in several industries, including manufacturing, fisheries, food production, forestry, farming, and more.
The new program provides flexibility by allowing six participating employers in New Brunswick to provide skills and language training of up to 200 hours, as required, to the recruited candidates as well as providing guidance and support to the newcomers they bring into the province.
This pilot will be regularly monitored and reviewed every five years, to ensure that it yields the necessary results.
Partner Employers for the New Brunswick Critical Worker Pilot Project
The six employers who are selected to be a part of the program were chosen due to their exemplary record under the New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program (NBPNP), their history of good immigrant hiring practices, and also because they have the requisite settlement services for new economic immigrants.

- Have robust settlement plans for housing, and transportation, to best support the successful establishment of candidates in their new jobs and communities, with a strong commitment to long-term retention;
- Have comprehensive human resources planning for recruiting and hiring skilled international talent, and for on-the-job skills enhancement;
- Provide up to 200 hours of language training, as required, to candidates; and
- Offer guidance and support to candidates who may wish to pursue their Canadian secondary education equivalency.
The benefit of the New Brunswick Critical Worker Pilot Project:
Canadian provinces do not have the ability to give out Canada permanent residency or work permits. However, they can nominate applicants for Canada permanent residency if they have a profile in the federal Express Entry immigration system.
Express Entry is the application system that Canada uses to manage skilled worker applications. It is also the most popular way to immigrate to Canada.
A total of 1,200 points is available under Express Entry. You immediately get 600 points if you are nominated by a province. A provincial nomination through the New Brunswick Critical Worker Pilot Project effectively guarantees that IRCC will invite you to apply for Canadian permanent residence in any of its Express Entry draws.
Now that you know how to immigrate to Canada through the New Brunswick Critical Worker Pilot Project, you can start planning your next steps.
To conclude, Immigration applications can be complex and you need to understand that choosing the right Canadian immigration consultant is crucial for the success of your immigration application. Make sure to consider the experience and qualifications of the consultant, the services they offer, their reputation, and the cost of their services before making a decision. Working with a consultant who’s not authorized can expose you to the risk of your application being rejected and even fraud or misrepresentation.
