New Selection Criteria for Alberta Express Entry Stream: Candidates with Family Ties in Alberta Now Eligible.
New Selection Criteria for Alberta Express Entry Stream: Candidates with Family Ties in Alberta Now Eligible. The Alberta Express Entry stream has updated its selection criteria to include candidates with immediate family ties to the province.
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP), which functions as Alberta’s Provincial Nominee Program, has added having relatives in the province to its selection criteria for the Alberta Express Entry stream. This means that candidates in the federal Express Entry pool who have immediate family members (parent, child, brother, or sister) who are permanent residents or citizens of Canada in Alberta will now be given extra consideration.
The AAIP is a means of welcoming newcomers into the province from abroad. There are currently eight streams managed by the program, which are broadly divided into streams for workers and streams for entrepreneurs. The Alberta Express Entry stream is one of the streams for workers, and it also includes the Alberta Accelerated Tech Pathway (AATP).
The changes to the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) were made to ensure skilled workers will have support in their transition into Alberta’s workforce. Skilled workers who are in high-demand industries like Healthcare, Construction, Education, Technology, Engineering, and those who have relatives in Alberta are now welcome to apply via express entry.
The New Selection Criteria for Alberta Express Entry Stream. What it means.
To be eligible for the Alberta Express Entry stream, candidates must have an active profile in the federal Express Entry pool, ideally with more than five months of validity. They must also have a stated interest in moving to Alberta permanently, have experience working in an in-demand occupation that supports Alberta’s economic development and diversification, and have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 300.
Candidates now stand a better chance of receiving an invitation to apply if they also have a valid job offer and/or Alberta work experience, are a graduate of a post-secondary institution in Alberta, or have a parent, child, brother or sister currently residing in Alberta who is a citizen or permanent resident.
In order to enter, candidates must first submit a profile to the federal Express Entry pool. They will then be ranked based on their CRS score and the top-ranking candidates will be invited to apply for permanent residence.
It’s important to note that this change to the Alberta Express Entry stream only adds the selection criteria of having immediate family ties in Alberta and does not impact existing selection factors such as having a job offer from an Alberta company or being a graduate of an Alberta post-secondary institution.
The Alberta Express Entry stream is now able to allocate 25% of its NOIs to individuals with both immediate family ties in Alberta and who have experience in in-demand occupations that the province requires workers for. This is a step taken by Alberta to help new immigrants establish themselves in the province and settle successfully.
The province of Alberta has experienced massive growth in the last months alone, adding almost 41,000 new jobs in December of 2022, most of which were in the private sector. However, Alberta also has a high rate of job vacancies, with nearly 100,000 currently and a further predicted cumulative shortage of over 33,000 workers across multiple occupations and sectors by 2025. These are key reasons behind the push for more newcomers in the province.
The AAIP serves as a means to help employers address labour shortages in Alberta. This program update will help to attract candidates with family ties in Alberta, that can further establish themselves in the province and contribute to its economic growth.
In summary, the Alberta Express Entry stream has updated its selection criteria to include candidates with immediate family ties to the province. Candidates who have a parent, child, brother, or sister who are permanent residents or citizens of Canada in Alberta will now be given extra consideration. This change only impacts the Alberta Express Entry stream and does not affect existing selection factors such as having a job offer from an Alberta company or being a graduate of an Alberta post-secondary institution.
